„Vegetable Oils in a circular economy”?
Oilseed processing and refining faces tough times. On the one hand there is the uncertainity of seed supply – due to climate change and war, on the other hand there increasing need of vegetable oil for food and technical application. In this symposium we want to discuss the last item: The industry needs carbonaceous raw materials for the production of organic chemicals and the products made from them.
At present, these are predominantly fossil raw materials such as crude mineral oil, coal and natural gas. To achieve sustainable development the search for alternatives is necessary and ongoing. Vegetable oils play a key role in this process, for example to produce ‘green aviation fuel’ – based on HVO (hydrogen treated vegetable oil).
This symposium wants to discuss the actual situation – what is already ongoing in the industry and what modifications of processes/product specifications are needed to meet the targets. The vegetable oil industry managed already to supply feed for the biodiesel process, how is the situation for HVO – and will both options compete for the same resources?
The aim is to get a fruitful discussion between experts and practitioners in vegetable oil industry and chemical/mineral oil industry. With Leipzig we will meet in the centre of Europe, the presentations will be in English, thus we address to participants from many countries.
Hope to see you in Leipzig!
