INVITATION
Dear colleagues,
We have long been waiting to put our idea of a Berlin Symposium on Structured Lipid Phases into reality. Two years ago, we fell victim to the covid pandemic outbreak. This year again a reasonable level of uncertainty overshadows all plans for international meetings. Nevertheless, we have finally decided to kick-off this year what we hope will be a series of bi-annual meetings in Berlin. Dealing with the different aspects of structured lipid phases the symposium tries to address the need for more room for discussions often missed at the larger congresses with parallel sessions and tight scheduling. It is thus an attempt to have a dialogue involving academia and industry to relate global challenges and future ambitions to goals that are relevant to the community present. This could imply sharing long-term ambitions and nagging questions as much as imperfect but inspiring work. The symposium should be a stage for exchange, challenges and stimulus for cooperation while being an inspiration to the junior researchers.
The five subject areas are entitled
but should not be interpreted too rigidly.
Each subject area is supposed to be introduced by a combination of keynote and a mirroring industrial ‘long term wants’. In combination with submitted contributions, oral presentations and posters this is supposed to stimulate vivid discussions.
Originally it was planned to hold the meeting at a remote location outside of Berlin to keep the participants in proximity of one another to stimulate exchange without the temptations of downtown Berlin. Anyhow, due to the uncertainty about the situation during this fall the symposium was relocated into the premises of the Technical University of Berlin. The conference venue is hence the main Campus of the TU Berlin located in central Berlin, just 1 km to the Kurfürstendamm and a 3 km stroll through the park to the Brandenburg gate. The single word the Berlin marketing agency uses to describe Berlin is ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, which translates to comprehensive piece of art. This vibrant and diverse city remains somehow an accumulation of small towns that pretends to be a metropole. Even more than 30 years after the fall of the iron curtain, one can still sense division between East and West, but yet not necessarily recognize what is what.
We are looking forward to welcome you in Berlin for an exciting Symposium on Structured Lipid Phases from the 26th to 28th September 2022.
Regards
