3rd Berlin Symposium on Structured Lipid Phases

INVITATION

Dear members of the community,

We are delighted to invite you to join the Third Berlin Symposium on Structured Lipid Phases.

We hope that we can continue along the lines established at the two earlier symposia. In essence, a large group of established and early-career experts engaged in vivid discussions. Dealing with the different aspects of structured lipid phases the symposium is designed to allow for ample space for discussion. This is often sacrificed to the tight schedule at larger congresses with parallel sessions due to tight scheduling.

Furthermore, this is an attempt to stimulate dialogue between academia and industry, to relate global challenges and future ambitions to goals relevant to the community. An implication of this ambition is the willingness to share long-term ambitions (not strategy) and nagging questions (industry) as much as imperfect but inspiring work (academia).

The symposium is meant to be a stage for exchange, challenges, a stimulus for cooperation, while being an inspiration for the junior researchers.

The following subject areas should not be interpreted too tightly, but give guidance:

  • fat crystallization
  • non-TAG structuring/oleogelation
  • analytical techniques and structure resolution
  • modelling and data processing
  • confectionary
  • emulsions, delivery, and non-food applications

The set of invited talks, submitted contributions, either oral presentations or posters, are supposed to stimulate discussions such that new answers, questions and ideas result.

The conference venue will again be the main Campus of the TU Berlin located in central Berlin, just 1 km of the Kurfürstendamm and a 3 km stroll through the park to the Brandenburg gate.

The single word the Berlin marketing agency uses to describe Berlin is ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, which translates to comprehensive piece of art. This vibrant and diverse city remains somehow an accumulation of small towns that pretends to be a metropole. Even more than 30 years after the fall of the iron curtain, one can still sense division between East and West, but yet not necessarily recognize what is what.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Berlin for a few enjoyable days during the third Symposium on Structured Lipid Phases from September 28th to 30th, 2026.

With best regards
