9th European Symposium on Plant Lipids

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 9th European Symposium on Plant Lipids, to be held from July 7th to the 10th 2019, in Marseille, a vibrant Mediterranean port and the oldest city in France.

The European Symposium on Plant Lipids (ESPL) is an international conference, showcasing the key roles of lipids in plant/algal development, physiology and biotechnology applications. It is the best and most renown European conference dedicated to the study and biotechnological applications of lipids, already having almost 20 years of history. The 9th ESPL conference will be held in Marseille, France and will provide an excellent opportunity to illuminate the very best of current advances in the field of plant and algal lipids. ESPL has the long tradition of gathering world leading plant/algal lipid scientists to share and discuss the latest results in the areas of lipid research and to point future directions. Up to now, the ESPL congresses, from very fundamental aspects towards the biotechnological applications of lipid molecules, have brought together more than 120 top leading scientists from all around the world every two years. This has helped to build a global network of scientists in the field.

Marseille can be easily reached by air (Marseille-Provence airport has good connections to major European hubs) and by high-speed train which runs frequently (3 hour trip from Paris TGV station at Charles de Gaulle airport). Shuttle buses connect Marseille airport to the city center (St Charles central train/bus station 20-30 min trip), which is 10 min walk from the conference center.

The conference will take place at the World Trade Center in the heart of Marseille, right off the Vieux Port (Old Harbour), where the city began as a Greek port around 600 BC. Le Vieux Port is a lively waterfront and a focal point for tourism that is 5 min walk from Le Panier, Marseille’s historic quarter featuring winding streets and colorful painted houses. The Vieux Port is also close the MuCEM, Marseille’s latest museum, which retraces the history of the civilizations of the Mediterranean and whose gardens offer a stunning panorama of the city and out to sea. The Vieux Port is the launching point for the ferries that sail to the Château d'If, Marseille's sea fort and former island-prison, and to the Calanques, a 20 km stretch of limestone cliffs rising from brilliant-turquoise Mediterranean waters.

It is our pleasure to host this event, continuing the series of meetings highlighting the current advances in plant and algal lipids. We hope that this meeting in Marseille will provide a stimulating environment to catalyze interactions and help establish collaborations. Your participation is important to make this meeting a memorable as well as fruitful one, and we are looking forward to seeing you here in Marseille.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,
